ARTIST CALL -- Technosexual Event Theme: PSYCHOSOMATICA

Writer's picture: THREE OF CANESTHREE OF CANES

Updated: Jan 7

Welcome to Psychosomatica, an immersive art experience that invites artists to explore the complex and often surreal relationship between the mind, body, technology, and sexuality. This theme delves into how psychological and emotional states influence our physical selves, how technology mediates and alters these connections, and how sexuality shapes and is shaped by both our bodies and the digital age.

We are excited to announce that the artwork submitted for this event will be featured in a silent auction, where all proceeds will go directly to the artists. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your work to a broader audience while receiving compensation for your creativity and talent. The auction will allow attendees to bid on pieces, with the proceeds supporting the artists who contribute to this thought-provoking exhibition.

We invite you to create works that explore the dynamic and often fluid interplay between the human psyche, body, technology, and sexuality. This can manifest in a variety of ways—through the expression of sexual identity, the influence of technology on intimacy and desire, or how sexuality intersects with emotional and physical well-being.

Ideas to inspire your work:

Sexuality and Digital Identity: Explore how technology shapes the way we express our sexual identities. How does the internet, social media, or dating apps affect how we present and experience our sexuality? Can the digital self ever fully capture the complexity of our physical, sexual selves?

Tech, Intimacy, and Desire: Examine how technology influences intimacy, relationships, and sexual desire. How do virtual or augmented realities, AI, and digital platforms change the way we interact with others sexually and emotionally? Can the digital world enhance or hinder authentic connections?

Sexuality, Mental Health, and the Body: Investigate how sexuality impacts mental health and how mental states influence sexual expression. How do emotions, trauma, or psychological states shape our sexual experiences? How can you represent the intimate connection between mental well-being and physical desire?

Embodied Sexuality in the Digital Age: How does technology mediate or distort our understanding of the body and sexuality? Consider themes of surveillance, body image, virtual reality, or the changing boundaries of personal and sexual space in an interconnected world.

Sexual Liberation and Identity Exploration: Explore themes of sexual freedom, fluidity, and self-discovery. How can you represent the celebration of diverse sexual identities, desires, and expressions through both traditional and digital media?

The Fragmented Body and Sexuality: Investigate how technology and societal norms fracture or reconstruct our understanding of the sexual body. Use digital tools, video, or mixed media to represent the complex, fragmented nature of sexual identity in today’s world. How does the experience of sex, identity, and the body shift in an increasingly technological society?

Artists are encouraged to push boundaries and experiment with a variety of media—paint, sculpture, video, photography, digital art, and interactive works that engage the audience in the conversation between body, mind, technology, and sexuality. Whether abstract, figurative, or conceptual, Psychosomatica invites you to explore the intersections of human experience in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Silent Auction Details: In addition to showcasing your art, your pieces will be part of a silent auction during the event. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the artists, providing compensation for your work and contributing to the ongoing growth of TECHNOSEXUAL. The auction offers attendees the opportunity to purchase pieces, supporting both your artistic expression and future creative endeavors.

Your work should spark a visceral response, offering a window into how technology, sexuality, and the body intersect, and how these elements reshape our perceptions of identity.
